RTA Adds Veteran Fleet Director to Its Staff

To better help fleets succeed, RTA knew it needed to add a Fleet Data Analyst to its team. They just did not expect to strike gold with former transportation director and fleet consultant, Marc Canton.

“When Marc applied for our Fleet Data Analyst position, we felt like we struck gold,” RTA CEO Josh Turley said. “His experience with Mercury Associates and Fordham will be a tremendous asset to our product team, as we design the next generation of FMIS. It’s not often you get to have people of the caliber of Marc join your team, so when it happens, you count your blessings, and get to work!”

Throughout his 25-year career in the fleet industry, Marc has worked extensively with university transportation, logistics, and fleet management. He has developed driver/staff training modules, fleet management policies, vendor management strategies, strategic planning, and process reengineering. Marc is also heavily involved in data analytics and best practices.

As a Senior Manager for Mercury Associates, Marc worked across every vertical, including clients in federal, state, and local US governments, Canadian municipal and provincial governments, higher education, school districts and student transportation companies, construction and energy companies, private and public utilities, and variety of other corporate entities. He directed the company’s Data Analytics Team and serves as an expert witness on vehicle costing and related cases. His work included projects for business process improvement, utilization and right-sizing, fleet replacement and alternative financing, vehicle costing and cost chargeback development, information system implementation, and EV and alternative fuel feasibility assessment and transition planning. Prior to joining Mercury, Marc was the Transportation Director and Fleet Manager for Fordham University.

Now, Marc is excited to bring his vast experience to RTA.

As a consultant and working with fleet organizations of all sizes — across all industries — Marc saw a need for fleets to not only use their FMIS solutions better, but also gather the right metrics and establish a data management plan.

“There’s a gaping hole, and I had the desire to fill it,” Marc said.

With RTA’s industry-leading FMIS and its evolution into The Fleet Success Company, Marc knew joining forces was the right move for him.

“There is an alignment of what I am passionate about doing in this world and what RTA is passionate about doing. I knew I could join a talented team of professionals and help them continue to plug this hole in the dam,” Marc said.

RTA’s culture was also at the core of Marc’s decision to join the company.

“It’s one thing to say this is who we are and what we do, and it’s another thing to see the company’s leaders believe this is who we are and what we do,” Marc said. “To me, I hired RTA, too, due to its culture.”
